A Message from the Education Committee

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

The Fourth Annual Meeting of The PMRG Institute is just around the corner. Our theme: “Navigating Healthcare’s Shifting Currents: Essential Techniques for the Healthcare Marketing Researcher” is an extension of the general ideas put forth at the ANC in Orlando. While the ANC addresses general issues facing the industry, The PMRG Institute explores educational opportunities to improve our skill set and make a lasting impact on our brands; consequently, our format has evolved. While we will still have Key Note Speakers, our panel discussions will focus on resolving methodological issues and our workshops will allow us to gain “hands-on” experience with new techniques. We will also continue the dialogue started in the Manufacturer Discussion Forum at the ANC. In addition, you will also be engaged by some of our industry’s experts as they present valuable techniques proven to improve brand performance.

The Fourth Annual Meeting of The PMRG Institute will be held at the Westin Boston Waterfront on October 24-26, 2010.  We have prepared an exciting agenda for participants to help them navigate healthcare’s shifting currents. There will be a lively panel discussion on Consumer Decision Dynamics in a Changing US Healthcare Scene as well as an array of breakout sessions and workshops designed to give participants some tools they can implement in their jobs, spanning the gamut from qualitative to quantitative techniques and a variety of data sources. There will be a workshop given on projective techniques that dovetails with our fall webinar series on that topic.  In addtion, most sessions will be eligible for PRC certification.  See the PRC website for details.

Our keynote speakers will be Charles Jacobs and Peter Sims.  Charles S. Jacobs, is the founder of the Amherst Consulting Group and the author of Management Rewired: Why Feedback Doesn’t Work and Other Surprising Lessons from the Latest Brain Science. His presentation will focus on information that will enable the audience to use an understanding of how the brain works to comprehensively rethink their businesses, create more robust competitive strategies and develop the performance-oriented organization needed to implement them. His work provides the key to overcoming the number one obstacle to meaningful improvement in business performance—the rapid and effective management of change.

Tuesday’s keynote speaker is Peter Sims, author of Little Bets (coming from Simon & Schuster: Free Press, 2011) and co-author, with Bill George, of True North. Peter’s presentation will focus on the idea of authentic leadership and will provide tips on how to create your own personal leadership development plan centered on five key areas:

1) Knowing your authentic self
2) Defining your values and leadership principles
3) Understanding your motivations
4) Building your support team
5) Staying grounded by integrating all aspects of your life
